Surprise!!! More Math Practice!!!

OK, so you saw it coming.  The test is next week and there is still time to practice vocabulary and skills to help you feel more confident. 

1. Go to Castle Learning and do the math assignment carefully.
2. Now you get to practice your skills on your own.  Pick a site from my math list and work on skills you think you need to review.  Call me if you need help or a problem explained.

Science with Mr. Plantz Rocks!!!  (Literally)

Today you are going to a really cool site that will teach you all about rocks and how they are formed.  You will need to take very good notes though, for 2 reasons:  (1)there is a quiz after you have gone through the site, and (2)Mr. Plantz expects you all to know your stuff when you get to this part of the rock unit.

0. When you have finished the site and taken the notes on all three types of rocks, you are to close the top of your computer, get a quiz from me, and answer all the questions for Mr. Plantz.  You may use your notes!

Today you get to enjoy some time at Scholastic.  Check out the new books they have out, learn more about your author and maybe what other books he or she has written, or play a fun game.  It's a great site that we haven't been back to since October.  Enjoy! But first you have another practice math assignment at Castle Learning. Don't rush! Do your best because it is for a grade.

We're going to do more math practice today.  First fo to Castle Learning and complete the assignment.  You have to do well the first time so read carefully.

Now go to Gamequarium and choose a skill you think you need to practice.  They have great review games here.  Have fun and let me know if you find an especially great game! If you find an especially great game share it with the class on the SmartBoard. (Only if you are extremely impressed and think it will help others!

Hi and welcome back to the blog!

We're going back to Castle Learning and today I really want you to be careful.  You know how to do each one of these problems but I think they are pretty tricky so use your scrap paper and if you miss one use the hint to correct it.  If you don't like your grade and want to do it again, see me and I'll reassign it for you.  GOOD LUCK!

Hi Math Class!!!

I know you've all been waiting for another day you could spend reviewing on computers, so here you go.

This site has many games that involve fractions.  There are 4 different pages of them but the skills we have been working on are on page 3 which is the page I'm sending you to.  Play and practice using the games on this page and after you've conquerred these you can check out some of the games on the other pages.

It's been a long time since you've been here at the blog and once the Iditarod unit starts you won't need it either.  Today you will have time to check out the Winter games.  The Olympics, of course, has an awesome website.  Click on the image above and check it out. Look up the medal count.  Check out some of your favorite sports.  Just enjoy!

Next, meet the mascots of the Olympics and play some fun games at the site below.  Just click on Miga Mole. Or play more Olympic games and learn more about the Olympics at the Olympic Game Center by clicking on Coach (the little beaver).  Also Tim and Moby have a great movie about the Olympics.  Check it out.

   Run-on Sentences

Today you are going to work on a skill that has shown up in your writer's workshop as needing some attention. This is run-on sentences.  It means that  you are putting more than one sentence together without using connectors or punctuation.  Tim and Moby will explain. Watch their movie and then do an assignment on it at Castle Learning.

At about 9:30 we will be working in PowerPoint.  I want to review it with you and show you some more tricks that you'll want to know for your Music project. 

We've almost finished learning all our states.  This is it!  Next class you will be showing off to Mrs. McCarthy.  She'll be thrilled. After we finish coloring and learning the last verse, practice the state locations using the puzzle above.  Practice until you can do it in less than 4 minutes.  Practice all weekend, too!  I can't wait to show her.

It's our first Blog of 2010 and I know it's hard but we have to get back to serious work. BOOOO!!!  Sorry!  Today you are going to work on VERBS.  They are the words you guys are best at.  They are ACTION WORDS.  

1. Go to BrainPop where Tim and Moby will give you a lesson on verbs and their objects.  Take the quiz and be sure you understand it before you go on to the next step.

2.Then on to Castle Learning where a verb assignment is waiting for you. This is based on what you just learned and will be a grade in the book for you so do your best.

3. Now you should have some time to practice the states at the puzzle I've linked for you.  Have Fun!

The Acuity testing is over!  Yea!  Now we can have some festive holiday fun!  Click on the Santa below and enjoy the site.  Fill out the sheet I gave you at the Santa's Reindeer link on the page.  Don't just visit that link though.  The whole site is really great!

Then try the snowflake.  You get to cut out your own flakes.  This is one of my favorite of all times sites.  Enjoy!

Oooooh, this is really exciting!  We have a new program at our school that we bought just for you!  It's called Acuity.  Cool name, huh?  I'm trying to get you psyched to take an online test.  This is the first time we've used this site so don't be scared this time, but.... at 20 weeks, this test will count big!  I'll talk you through it.  All you have to do is follow the directions on the PowerPoint I'm about to show you.

If you finish before the end of the period, you can use the math site we worked on last time.  Do your best!  Now click on the Acuity logo below.

Today we have a language arts assignment at Castle Learning.  It's all about adjectives.  For a quick review let's redefine an adjective. 

An ADJECTIVE is a word that describes or adds to a noun. 

Example:  The old dog slept on a soft pillow.  Old and soft add to the noun.  They describe the noun to help the reader form a better picture in their minds.

Before you do the assignment, let Tim and Moby tell you a little more about adjectives.

I also have a new math site you can try.  When you have finished with you adjectives give this site a try.  New games and challenges.

Can you believe that it will be Thanksgiving soon?  So let's enjoy learning about the Pilgrims at a wonderful site put out by Scholastic.  The site has little speakers so you can even have it read to you.  Use the webquest sheet that I've given you to help you navigate (get it...navigate) through the site. Good Morning Plantz Class!

Today we are going to spend even more time at BrainPop.  With the NYS Social Studies test coming up the more review of concepts you can do the better and we don't have time throughout the day to do that.  Besides, Tim and Moby are fun to learn from.

Start at the U.S Government and Law site which is what you get when you click on BrainPop below. Remember, you have to log in to see the movies.

 1. Watch the Branches of Government movie and take the review quiz to study for the sheet your teacher will give you.

4. Now you need to take the short ELA assignment at Castle Learning.

5. When you finish that you may go to keyboarding or FreeRice.

1. For years you have learned about Christopher Columbus and how he discovered the Americas but I think you are old enough to learn the real truth about him.  Historians have researched and found a few very disturbing things about Mr. Columbus.  Tim and Moby will explain.  After you have finished the movie, take the review test. This will be a practice for the printed test your teacher will give you.  Make sure you know all the right answers. Be thinking about how you feel as you listen to Tim and Moby. Click on the picture of Columbus above to watch the movie.
